Hessle Foreshore area, Kingston Upon Hull.

Hessle Foreshore is situated on the River Humber and runs under the very well known Humber Bridge (pictured right).  It is a popular area for walkers, family picnics and even has a really nice pub. Myself and my family often visit this area even just to sit and watch the river, passing boats or have a walk around.  For me it is a very peaceful place and I love to visit - I think I love the area so much because I used to live on the foreshore as a small child, more of which you will read about later.

The bridge itself was built in the 1970's, I lived in the area at this time but only have vague memories of its construction.

The experiences I'd like to tell you about first and in an area called Little Switzerland or Little Swiss for short, I have no idea why it is called that, but it is what I have always known it by.  It is a nature reserve popular with nature lovers and walkers and can be found just off the foreshore. The image to the left shows a small wooded part of the area, there are also open grassy areas which are nice in the summer.  If memory serves me right the area at one time was a chalk quarry where I am sure workers have died.  Swiss is reputed to be haunted and has been an area allegedly used for witch craft practises even into modern day - something I have never taken an interest in or even been prepared to take part in either.

As I previously mentioned, I used to run a group called Paranormal Hull Research Group (PHRG) and Little Swiss was an area we often went to as a group to see what evidence we could gather.  We spent many nights there together and unlike the TV shows we did not have a mountain of equipment, we had digital cameras and a couple of camcorders, but our most important tool - we felt - was our own bodies and senses. None of us were 'psychic' but we also felt you didn't need to be to get a sense of something there, my beliefs remain the same today.

During our investigations there we did have nights where absolutely nothing happend, nothing on film, photograph and no eerie feelings either.  However, when things happend they really happend!

In this area I have captured many digital images containing 'orbs' which are, in general, believed to be a manifestation of a spirit or ghost, I have also photographed images containing a mist/fog type manifestation.

However, most of my experiences in Little Swiss were based on feelings.  As I said I am not psychic but I believe everyone has the ability to sense these things like when you get a shivver or goose bumps.  I will say that the feelings I got in this area didn't feel good at all, in fact, they all felt heavy and bad.  You know that feeling you get when you think you are being watched? it is a lot like that.  Fear creeps in and you can get a bit edgy.   I don't understand why, there were never any voices or messages, no attacks although I did get scratched on my face one time - even then I didn't know until a team member pointed it out to me.  Often these feelings would stay with me right until I left the area - it wasn't until I was back on the foreshore that the oppression lifted. I think that the spirits didn't want us in the area and did what they could to get us to leave.  Unfortunately there isn't any stories as such to tell you, there are only the small events with no apparent connection but if you were to ask me if the place is haunted, I'd say yes, for sure but not in any big amazing way.  That being said, it may be that it just didn't happen for us, maybe for you it will.
